What I’m Learning About Strength & Movement
I want to stay strong and capable for the years ahead. I want to be able to do things for myself, be there for my family when they need me, and hopefully one day be able to play with my future grandchildren. That matters to me much more than just being fit.
I’m learning that staying strong takes more than one type of exercise. Strength training, walking, balance, mobility and cardio all have a part to play, and I’m trying to build them into my life in a way I can keep doing.
I’m not doing this to look a certain way. If that changes along the way, that’s fine, but it isn’t the priority. What matters to me is staying strong, capable and confident in what my body can do.
The Areas I’m Paying Attention To
There isn’t one single thing I’m focusing on. I’m looking at the bigger picture — strength, balance, mobility, fitness and the everyday movement that helps me stay capable and independent.

Heavy Strength Training
Learning to lift progressively heavier weights to build strength, protect my bones and keep my muscles working for me.

Balance & Stability
Working on balance and control so I can stay steady, confident and reduce my risk of falls as I get older.

Mobility & Flexibility
Keeping my joints moving well, easing stiffness and making everyday movement feel easier.

Walking & Everyday Movement
Getting my steps in, walking regularly and remembering that all the movement I do outside the gym still counts.

Cardio & HIIT
Improving my fitness and heart health with walking, water aerobics and short bursts of harder work.

Recovery & Progress
Paying attention to recovery, how my body feels and when to push a little harder — or back off.
